I realize that New York Fashion Week ended last Thursday, but I’ve been so completely immersed in other things to take a minute and review what I saw on the runways. If you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw snippets of the shows I was so fortunate enough to attend through work.

Overall, the shows this season showcased a much more mature approach to dressing. Retro-ladylike skirts and dresses dominated the prettier runways, while tough-girl minimalism was shown at shows like Altuzarra, Alexander Wang and Calvin Klein.

One designer that really stood out to me (besides Jenny Packham OH MY GOODNESS) was London-transplant Negarin. I learned that her designs were inspired by the Northern Lights while her illusion cuts provided flattering silhouettes in cool shades of mint, ivory, silver grey and mocha.

Dresses That Slim You.

One thing that I’ve been learning (even after years of watching What Not to Wear) is that slim fitting clothes are… well, flattering. The closer to the body, the slimmer you look (within reason of course).

I love the illusion these dresses give to the body. The side paneling trick the eye to looking at the center panel of the dress, giving you a smaller frame.

3 Things to Check Out This AM.

1) Dressing Your Relationship Status (for Valentine’s Day)

I’m a habitual email deleter, but I kept this one in my inbox because it made me laugh. Intermix has you covered for every Valentine’s Day status - newly single? waiting on an engagement ring? still honeymooning?

2) NYU Sloth Thrift Store

A handful of brave environmentalist/entrepreneurs from NYU are looking to get funding to start an NYU thrift store to “slow consumption” and swap last year’s clothes with others for a great price! All they need are “Likes” on their Facebook page to receive proper funding from NYU. C’mon guys - it’s easy and free!!

3) LACED Headbands

Larissa of LACED Headbands on Etsy contacted me to check out her shop - and it’s adorable! Certainly something for future brides to check out for hair/belt accessories at reasonable prices!

Look Hot for Valentine’s Day.

My fiance and I have never celebrated Valentine’s Day, but I’m sure he wouldn’t mind me showing up to one of our date nights in one of these dresses. If there’s anything I’ve learned over the past 4 years of dating him - the tighter, the shorter, the better.

So if you’re in the market for a last minute V-day outfit, check out these 9 dresses to get inspired!
